We are currently in Samarkand on the penultimate day of an 11 night tour of Uzbekistan (booked through Advantour based in Tashkent), taking in sights from the Savitisky Art Museum in Nukus, to Khiva and Bukhara and a night in a yurt in the Kyzulkum desert to the incomparable beauty of Samarkand - today we will return to Tashkent on the high speed Afrosayib train. Everywhere has exceeded expectations, aided by our friendly and knowledgeable driver Farid to the local guides who have been expert and passionate about their local city. The main exhaustion has been mental rather than physical - trying to comprehend a rich history ranging from interactions with Persians and Zoroastrianism, Alexander the Great, Arabs introducing Islam, Genghis Khan, Timur to more recent Soviet times.<br><br>We have been welcomed wherever we have gone and felt extremely safe - in Bukhara earlier this week we noted that families with young children were still out in the central area around the reservoir after 10pm - and the whole trip has been excellent value (for the richness of the experience as well as the cost on the ground).

I love my eight day tour of Uzbekistan. Advantour guides are highly knowledgeable about their history and culture. One, a PhD candidate, recommended a book that I am reading now. I am learning more about the importance of the four cities we visited to the history of the Silk Road. The tour director's response to our requests are swift and clear.

What a great experience! 2 days of tours around Bukhara city in Uzbekistan - visiting the Old town dome markets, the largest mosque, the water temple and the summer palace - just to name a few of the special historical places we explored, whilst in Bukhara for a wedding. Thank you very much to Lola and Ferangiz for making our trip so enjoyable and educational, we all had a fantastic time. Rahmat!
